  • Overview

    The Manager of Clinical Safety and Risk Management is responsible for managing the risk and quality functions in accordance with Anne Arundel Dermatology’s risk and safety management program plan. Utilizes interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with and resolve issues involving a diverse group of healthcare, legal and insurance professionals.  This position has relative autonomy,  but reports to the Compliance and Privacy Officer. This role is located in our Baltimore MD office. May consider remote candidates in one of our Mid-Atlantic or Southern practice regions.


    • Provides overall direction, management, and support for the risk and safety/employee health program and serves as a resource for risk and safety inquiries.
    • In coordination with compliance office initiatives, develops and implements policies, procedures and processes and training.
    • In coordination with compliance office initiatives, develops and implements a monitoring process to measure success of the risk and safety program.
    • In coordination with compliance office initiatives, develops a comprehensive and pro-active risk program for all lines of risk to decrease the frequency and severity of liability exposure, minimize risk and promote employee and patient safety.
    • In coordination with risk initiatives, develops a comprehensive employee health program encompassing on-boarding employee screening, result management, and exposure management processes for sharps or other injuries.
    • Manages and coordinates the investigation and resolution of risk and safety occurrence reports, adverse events, patient concerns and      performs root cause analyses when necessary; monitors data for trends and implements training or other interventions to reduce risk and improve quality.
    • Manages all state or regulatory reporting obligations with regard to mandatory adverse events or other state reports.
    • Coordinates gathering of documents and information for insurance program and assists broker/finance in renewal process.
    • Maintains loss runs of open and closed malpractice or Workers Compensation claims for reporting and analysis. Coordinates associated reporting with third party administrator.
    • Develops and maintains a process for the timely investigation, notification, filing of claims and consultation with insurance carriers, appropriate regulatory agencies and attorneys.
    • Manages and responds to subpoenas, document and release of information requests.
    • Facilitates the annual risk and safety site assessments and overall exposure control plan updates
    • Stays up to date with OSHA regulatory changes and state regulations with regard to medical practice, supervision and delegation, and cosmetic medical treatments and procedures.
    • Promotes patient safety through the implementation of quality measures, strategies and benchmarks established by national patient safety or quality organizations
    • Familiarity with MIPS reporting and MIPS process strategies
    • Coordinates the collection of data relevant to performance improvement, patient safety, patient care outcomes and national reporting      requirements.
    • Develops Safety committee and/or other committees including agenda development, gathering of data, and preparation of reports and minutes.
    • Other duties as assigned by management


    • Ability to work in computer applications including MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point; database administration skills required.
    • Ability to work independently with limited supervision required.
    • Strong and collaborative communication style with colleagues, patients and clinicians.
    • Strong organizational and prioritization skills.
    • Ability to present materials in a concise and detailed manner, individually and in groups.
    • Ability to read, write, and speak English


    • Bachelor’s or advanced degree preferred; will consider a combination of education and work experience equivalent.
    • 3 years minimum experience in either risk management or quality management in a healthcare setting preferred.
    • RN or other clinical license/background preferred.
    • CPHRM, CHSP or CPHQ certification preferred.
