Knoxville Dermatology Group (KDG) is one of the largest groups of board certified dermatologists in Tennessee. All of our physicians are board-certified with extensive dermatology experience. With thirteen providers between two locations, West Knoxville & Sevierville, we are able to treat our patients for all of their dermatology needs. 

Responsibilities

  • Escort patient to exam room and confirm first & last name & DOB. 
  • Obtain and record vital signs. 
  • Organize patient flow. 
  • Setup procedure tray, instruments, and equipment according to instructions. 
  • Prepare Path/lab specimens, route to correct lab directed by patient insurance plan. 
  • Respond to patient questions in office and on phone as instructed. 
  • Check to-dos/Nurse line. 
  • Calibrate, clean, sterilize and inventory all equipment & instruments according to schedule Keep appropriate records of maintenance. 
  • Maintain medication supplies, discard out-of-date supplies, and keep appropriate records. 
  • Maintain infection control and make sure supply rooms and cabinets are stocked. 
  • Ordering, sorting, restocking and inventory of all supplies.  
  • Document all medical instructions given to patients, thoroughly review wound care with patients when applicable. 
  • Anesthesia/Inject for procedures. 
  • Ensure all phone messages, faxes, and interdepartmental mail are addressed in a timely manner. 
  • Must maintain HIPAA compliance 

Qualifications

  • Able to triage patient problems. 
  • Be familiar with and compliant OSHA/HIPAA, infection control & Blood Borne Pathogen Standards. 
  • Experience measuring vital signs and preparing patients for appointments. 
  • Experience administering injections. 
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT and ICD-10 codes. 
  • Knowledge of office financial policies. 
  • Basic computer skills and experience in EMR utilization. 
  • Able to operate standard office equipment (i.e. computer, fax, copier, scanner, etc) 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Fluent in English 
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment. 
  • Ability to work in an effective, cooperative, and courteous manner with staff, patients, and visitors. 
  • Must be able to travel to satellite offices as needed 
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize appropriately, and work well both individually and as part of a team 
  • Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instruction.   
  • Ability to spell, sort and file materials correctly alphabetically or numerically.   

Licensure/Certifications/Education

Education and Experience: 

  • High School Graduate or GED. 
  • Medical Assistant Certification or CNA preferred. 
  • CPR certified preferred. 
  • Completion of a formal medical assistant program with internship preferred. 
  • 1-2 years of recent experience as a medical assistant or other closely related clinical experience preferred.
  • Previous experience in Dermatology is preferred. 

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Standing and walking for extended periods of time 
  • Moderate amount of talking, bending, twisting, reaching, and balancing. 
  • Use of hands and fingers. 
  • Talking and listening in person and on the telephone. 
  • Handling of materials such as paper, supplies, etc. 
  • Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds. 
  • Risk of exposure to infectious organisms and the possibility of injury due to chemicals and sharp objects.
