As a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) on the surgical team, you will play an important role in providing comprehensive patient care and support within a clinical surgical setting. Your responsibilities will encompass various tasks, including pre- and post-operative care, collecting vital information, preparing procedure rooms, assisting surgeons with procedures, and ensuring adherence to company policies and HIPAA regulations. This role requires strict adherence to sterile techniques, effective communication, and anticipating the surgeon's needs.

 

Work Schedule:

  • Enjoy a 4-day work week, assisting two days in Newnan and two days in LaGrange.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Escort patients to the exam/procedure room. Assist patients as needed with walking. Collect patient information/history; take vitals; perform screenings per provider guidelines; and enter visit information in our electronic medical record system (EMA).
  • Assist Physicians with exams, medical and cosmetic procedures, biopsies, excisions, and Mohs surgeries.
  • Scribe for Physicians using Modmed EHR.
  • Administer medications and perform tests.
  • Prepare specimens for laboratory analysis.
  • Suture removal.
  • Reviewing Physician directed treatment plan and home instructions with the patient.
  • Provide efficient patient care.
  • Supply patients with answers regarding medications, pre-op/post-op and wound care.
  • E-Prescribe medications to pharmacy, process prior authorizations, enter patient data into iPledge program and schedule appointments using electronic software.
  • Sterilize instruments using an autoclave and perform monthly in-office Biological monitoring tests.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

    • High School diploma or equivalent.
    • Completion of an approved Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
    • Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NHA, NAHP, or AMCA). New employees who are not currently certified must obtain certification within 90 days of employment.
    • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association
    • 2-3 years of medical assisting experience in a practice setting, preferably dermatology &/or plastics.
    • Electronic Health Records (EHR).
    • Experience with scribing for a Physician.
    • Familiarity with an iPad.
    • Strong team player.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills with the professionalism to communicate with clarity both verbally and in writing.
    • Capable of multi-tasking and detail-oriented.
    • Ability to maintain adequate and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow.
    • Knowledge of medical terminology and medication names, HIPAA, and full compliance with OSHA workplace safety regulations.

Licensure/Certifications/Education

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for long periods (often several hours) during surgical procedures.
  • Capability to lift and move surgical instruments, supplies, and occasionally patients. This may include lifting to 20 pounds or more.
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring hand and eye coordination, such as passing instruments or suturing.
  • Ability to move quickly and efficiently in the surgical environment, including bending, stooping, and reaching.
