Responsibilities

Job Summary: As a PRN Medical Assistant you will play a vital role within our clinical team, supporting various aspects of patient care and clinic operations. Your responsibilities will include a variety of administrative and clinical tasks to deliver high-quality patient care and ensure efficient workflow. You will assist with patient examinations, manage medical records, and ensure that our clinic maintains the highest standards of patient safety and satisfaction. As a PRN Medical Assistant, you will be responsible for traveling to various AAD office locations to support our clinic operations. Your notification for shifts could be same day up to a month in advance.

 

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Escort patient to exam room and confirm first & last name & DOB.
  • Obtain and record vital signs.
  • Organize patient flow.
  • Setup procedure tray, instruments, and equipment according to instructions.
  • Prepare Path/lab specimens, route to correct lab directed by patient insurance plan.
  • Respond to patient questions in office and on phone as instructed.
  • Check to-dos/Nurse line.
  • Calibrate, clean, sterilize and inventory all equipment & instruments according to schedule. Keep appropriate records of maintenance.
  • Maintain medication supplies, discard out-of-date supplies, and keep appropriate records.
  • Maintain infection control and make sure supply rooms and cabinets are stocked.
  • Ordering, sorting, restocking and inventory of all supplies.
  • Document all medical instructions given to patients, thoroughly review wound care with patients when applicable.
  • Anesthesia/Inject for procedures.
  • Ensure all phone messages, faxes, and interdepartmental mail are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Must maintain HIPAA compliance.
  • Other duties assigned as deemed necessary by management.

Qualifications

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Able to triage patient problems.
  • Be familiar with and compliant OSHA/HIPAA, infection control & Blood Borne Pathogen Standards.
  • Experience measuring vital signs and preparing patients for appointments.
  • Experience administering injections.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT and ICD-10 codes.
  • Knowledge of office financial policies.
  • Basic computer skills and experience in EMR utilization.
  • Able to operate standard office equipment (i.e. computer, fax, copier, scanner, etc)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Fluent in English
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful
  • Ability to work in an effective, cooperative, and courteous manner with staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Must be able to travel to satellite offices as needed
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize appropriately, and work well both individually and as part of a team
  • Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instruction.
  • Ability to spell, sort and file materials correctly alphabetically or numerically.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Standing and walking for extended periods of time
  • Moderate amount of talking, bending, twisting, reaching, and balancing.
  • Use of hands and fingers.
  • Talking and listening in person and on the telephone.
  • Handling of materials such as paper, supplies, etc.
  • Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds.
  • Risk of exposure to infectious organisms and the possibility of injury due to chemicals and sharp objects.

Licensure/Certifications/Education

  • High School Graduate or GED required.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Program, Certified Nursing Assistant program or completion of a bachelor’s degree program in the pre-med or pre-physician’s assistant track preferred.
  • CPR certified preferred.
  • 1-2 years of recent experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, or other clinical patient care experience preferred.
  • Previous experience in Dermatology is preferred.
