As a Pathology Clerk, you will be pivotal in our pathology department's daily operations. Your primary responsibility is to ensure the efficient coordination of pathology services, maintain accurate records, and facilitate communication between healthcare professionals and patients. Attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively in a healthcare setting are essential for success in this role.

 

Schedule: Monday through Friday from 8:30am - 5pm.

 

Pay rate: 20-23/hr, depending upon years of experience

Responsibilities

  • Awareness of key clients and their issues 
  • Enter patient demographics into computer 
  • Enter pathologist dictation into computer  
  • Generate and organize pathology reports to be delivered to clients 
  • Document and fax melanoma cases to appropriate locations using proper procedure 
  • File slides and tissue blocks in proper location 
  • Maintain a neat and orderly work area Document and fax melanoma cases to appropriate locations using proper procedure 
  • Enter billing codes and prepare log sheet for billing 
  • Document and mail slide/block requests for consultation 
  • Follow proper protocol to send and receive consult cases 
  • Sort reports and distribute to clients 
  • Display proficiency in retrieving prior/archived pathology reports 
  • Email the Marketing team the log on a monthly basis 
  • Add new locations and physicians to IP 
  • Send out monthly self-pay/discount audit MCBS 
  • Send out monthly missing accession numbers re-released to MCBS 
  • Test interfaces with clients 
  • Fill out supply orders 
  • Back up to the front desk as needed 
  • Other duties assigned as deemed necessary by management. 

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of and compliance with HIPAA standards 
  • Knowledge of and compliance with OSHA Standard Precautions 
  • Knowledge of and compliance with Chemical Hygiene Practices 
  • Ability to type accurately and efficiently 

Licensure/Certifications/Education

Education and Experience: 

  • AA degree in biology, histotechnology or other closely related field strongly preferred
  • Must have a strong background/understanding of medical terminology 
  • Two or more years of typing at least 40 WPM. 
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. 

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. 
  • Must be able to go up and down flights of stairs multiple times per day. 
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
