Reporting to the Chief Compliance Officer, the Compliance & Privacy Manager will help ensure the highest quality compliance for programs and services at Anne Arundel Dermatology, and any affiliate companies, including managing compliance using the Seven Elements of an Effective Compliance Program as a basis. The Compliance & Privacy Manager will be responsible in the overall management and support for the Company’s compliance and privacy programs. In partnership with key stakeholders, the Compliance & Privacy Manager will develop, implement, and manage elements of the Compliance and Privacy Program to ensure compliance with regulations affecting the organization. The Compliance & Privacy Manager has leadership experience and advanced knowledge of health care compliance. This position is required to have some independent discretion and judgement with respect to decisions and recommendations. The position requires leadership skills to assist in creating an environment and culture to enable AAD to fulfill its mission, meet or exceed its goals, mitigate risks, and maintain overall compliance.

 

Ideally, the candidate will be located in one of the following states: PA, MD, VA, DE, NC, TN, GA or FL. Must reside in the Eastern Time Zone. 

 

Salary range: $85,000- $105 k annually, plus bonus incentive

 

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates the development and provides overall management of the Company’s Compliance and Privacy Work Plan that includes high risk areas, with particular attention to billing, coding, documentation, malpractice, HIPAA, investigations, and fraud, waste & abuse.
  • Prepares and provides reports and analysis to the Chief Compliance Officer and Company executive management detailing audit results, rule violations, the status of investigations, corrective and preventative actions underway and any recommendation for improvements to the Compliance and Privacy Program.
  • Manages the organization’s new employee and annual compliance training process and delivers routine special topic training for identified key stakeholders.
  • Develops, performs and reviews compliance audits to determine if the company is complying with established policies, procedures and applicable regulatory standards. Analyzes results and collaborates with respective parties to address audit findings through ongoing strategic direction and guidance related to the compliance audit functions.
  • Provides guidance to departmental representatives on the development of policies specific to their departmental needs.
  • Along with the Chief Compliance Officer, develops, reviews, and revises policies and procedures for the general operation of the Compliance and Privacy program and related activities to prevent illegal, unethical, or improper conduct and mitigate organizational risk.
  • Oversees the investigation of incident reports submitted by employees and patients, conferring with the Chief Compliance Officer when necessary. Assist in investigations surrounding alleged violations of rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and standards of conduct. Performs routine analysis of incident trends and uses a root cause analyses to implement training and other internal controls to reduce risk of reoccurrence.
  • Promotes activities to foster compliance and privacy awareness through various modes of publicity (newsletters, lunch and learns, etc.).
  • Develops and manages the company’s annual conflict of interest process.
  • Manages all state or regulatory reporting obligations with regard to mandatory adverse events or other state reports.
  • Manages the process for the timely investigation, notification, filing of claims and consultation with malpractice/professional liability insurance carriers, appropriate regulatory agencies and attorneys.
  • Assist with other Compliance and Privacy Program related functions and projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • Current knowledge of healthcare regulatory and compliance issues.
  • Strong technical computer system application skills required.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A minimum of two or more years in healthcare management or leadership required. Licensed clinical experience/background preferred.
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and demonstrate the ability to collaborate with colleagues at all levels.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, meet established deadlines, and handle multiple internal and external customer demands while demonstrating service excellence.
  • Demonstrate excellent analytical, critical thinking, organizational, and prioritization skills.
  • Be able to present materials in a concise and detailed manner, individually and in groups.

 

Licensure/Certifications/Education

  • Bachelor’s degree is required. Graduate degree preferred.
  • Two (2) or more years of healthcare compliance and privacy experience with general knowledge of outpatient billing, is required.
  • Certified in Healthcare Compliance or other professional compliance certification.
