Responsibilities

Biologics Coordinator plays a key role in helping patients access and manage biologic therapies. They work closely with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance companies to ensure timely and accurate medication administration, including handling prior authorizations, scheduling appointments, and educating patients about their treatment plan. 

 

·   Prior Authorization Management:

  • Initiating and following up on prior authorizations for biologic medications with insurance companies. 

·    Patient Communication:

  • Communicating with patients about medication approvals, denials, and treatment plans, and documenting all interactions. 

·    Appointment Scheduling:

  • Scheduling and coordinating patient appointments, ensuring adherence to treatment regimens and medication intervals. 

·    Clinical Information Gathering:

  • Obtaining necessary clinical information from medical records and providers to support prior authorizations. 

·    Medication Management:

  • Ensuring all medications are received prior to patient appointments, tracking medication inventory, and managing supplies. 

·   Compliance and Training:

  • Adhering to compliance guidelines and completing necessary training. 

·    Patient Education:

  • Educating patients about their biologic therapy, including administration instructions, potential side effects, and follow-up care. 

·    Collaboration with Healthcare Providers:

  • Working closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient care. 

·     Documentation:

  • Maintaining accurate and complete documentation of patient progress, treatment plans, and any adverse reactions. 

 

 

Qualifications

  • Able to triage patient problems. 
  • Be familiar with and compliant OSHA/HIPAA, infection control & Blood Borne Pathogen Standards. 
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT and ICD-10 codes. 
  • Knowledge of office financial policies. 
  • Basic computer skills and experience in EMR utilization. 
  • Able to operate standard office equipment (i.e. computer, fax, copier, scanner, etc) 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Fluent in English 
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment. 
  • Ability to work in an effective, cooperative, and courteous manner with staff, patients, and visitors. 
  • Must be able to travel to satellite offices as needed 
  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize appropriately, and work well both individually and as part of a team 
  • Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instruction.   
  • Ability to spell, sort and file materials correctly alphabetically or numerically.   

Licensure/Certifications/Education

Education and Experience:

  • High School Graduate or GED required.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Program, Certified Nursing Assistant program or completion of a bachelor’s degree program in the pre-med or pre-physician assistant track preferred.
  • CPR certified preferred.
  • 1-2 years of recent experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, or other clinical patient care experience preferred.
  • Previous experience in Dermatology is preferred.

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Standing and walking for extended periods of time 
  • Moderate amount of talking, bending, twisting, reaching, and balancing. 
  • Use of hands and fingers. 
  • Talking and listening in person and on the telephone. 
  • Handling of materials such as paper, supplies, etc. 
  • Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds. 
  • Risk of exposure to infectious organisms and the possibility of injury due to chemicals and sharp objects.
