The Accounts Receivables (AR) Specialist Lead performs collection follow-up steps with insurance carriers regarding open accounts receivable and/or delinquent accounts to result in maximum cash collections. 

 

Under the supervision of the AR Manager, an AR Specialist Lead resolves insurance carrier denials, appealing claims, contacting payors on open accounts, and responding to insurance carrier correspondence and/or inquiries. 

 

As a Lead, this position is a key change agent in identifying opportunities for improvement in addition to assigning and monitoring workload and process workflow for an assigned group of employees. The position provides continual education and on-the-job training to staff as areas of opportunity are identified. The lead will work closely with management to set key performance indicators, monitor performance, and provide feedback.

 

Pay range: $24-29/hr, depending upon years of experience. For external candidates, residence within PA, MD, VA or TN is strongly preferred. 

 

Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working as an AR Specialist or AR Lead for a multi-state, high volume specialty healthcare organization is required.

Experience with ModMed PM is strongly preferred. If no experience directly with ModMed, direct experience managing dermatology AR is required. 

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a resource for AR specialists, directs daily operational tasks to ensure completion and adherence to Standard Operating Procedures to achieve KPI goals
  • Creates reports of compiled data to present to leadership for issue escalation and resolution, monitor worklists of staff to ensure optimization
  • Responsible for all aspects of insurance follow-up and collections, including making telephone calls, accessing payer websites.
  • Identify root cause issues for denials; categorize denial reasons and coordinate with clinic and/or with management to ensure process improvements are completed.
  • Owns performance and ensures consistent and timely communication for issues identified affecting reimbursement.
  • Effectively resolve complex or aged inventory, including payment research, payment recoups with minimal or no assistance necessary; accurately and thoroughly document the pertinent collection activity performed.
  • Review the account information and necessary system applications to determine the next appropriate work activity.
  • Verify claims adjudication utilizing appropriate resources and applications. Initiate telephone, electronic or letter contact to patients to obtain additional information as needed.
  • Edit claims to meet and satisfy billing compliance guidelines for electronic submission.
  • Manage and maintain individual work list/inventory, complete reports, and resolve high priority and aged inventory.
  • Stay informed of changes with the procedures and laws for the specific insurance carriers or payers.
  • Effectively communicate issues to management, including payer, system or escalated account issues as well as develop solutions.
  • Other duties assigned as deemed necessary by management. 

Licensure/Certifications/Education

Education

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent

Experience

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working as an AR Specialist or AR Lead for a multi-state, high volume specialty healthcare organization is required.
