Lab Assistants contribute to a high-performance team in a fast-paced environment where they are responsible for performing routine lab and general clerical tasks necessary for the daily operation of the laboratory.  

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Assigning case numbers to specimens, slides, and cassettes 
  • Assist with specimen grossing, including handling, measuring, labeling, and preparing tissue samples for processing
  • Document and transcribe pathologist dictations during specimen gross examination
  • Maintain accurate specimen logs and ensure all documentation is complete and compliant
  • Support the daily operations of the pathology lab, including specimen intake, organization, and storage
  • Data entry for lab
  • Load IHC Stainers
  • Pulling and filing blocks and slides for the lab
  • Changing Solutions for processor, H&E, and IHC stainers
  • Set up IHC stainer
  • Other duties assigned as deemed necessary by management/collaborate with pathologists, histotechnicians, and other team members to ensure smooth lab flow 
  • Assist with maintaining a clean, safe, and stocked laboratory environment

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Laboratory experience or 24 hours of biology course experience (preferred)
  • Strong general computer skills and proficiency with MS  
  • Must be well organized and have the ability to prioritize work 
  • Ability to multi-task while maintaining attention to detail 
  • The ability to communicate effectively with staff
  • Dependable and proficient time management skills 

Licensure/Certifications/Education

  • Completion of an associate degree (Required)
  • 4-year degree is strongly preferred 
  • At least 1 year of experience working in an lab support position or other closely related experience is strongly preferred 

Physical Requirements: 

 

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. 
  • The ability to stand for the duration of the 8-hour shift. 
  • Must be able to lift at least 30 pounds at times.
