Overview

We’re hiring a part-time Cosmetic Medical Assistant to join our Academic Alliance in Dermatology clinic in Tampa, FL. This role will support both medical and cosmetic dermatology services by assisting physicians and other providers with patient care, procedure preparation, clinical documentation, and maintaining an efficient patient flow.

 

Schedule

  • Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays | 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM
  • Occasional Fridays (8:30 AM - 5:00 PM) and 1 Saturday per month (9:00 AM - 2:00 PM)

The Cosmetic Medical Assistant works closely with cosmetic providers and the Cosmetic Coordinator to support a smooth, professional patient experience throughout each visit. This role is highly hands-on and includes gathering patient information, preparing treatment areas and supplies, assisting providers during cosmetic procedures, supporting documentation, and helping maintain efficient clinical workflow. The ideal candidate is professional, personable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working closely with both patients and providers in a fast-paced cosmetic dermatology environment.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Room cosmetic patients, obtain vital signs as needed, and document intake information in the EMR.
  • Coordinate patient flow and support an efficient, high-touch cosmetic patient experience.
  • Prepare treatment rooms, procedure trays, instruments, products, and equipment for cosmetic services.
  • Assist providers with cosmetic dermatology procedures and treatments.
  • Review and update patient information, treatment history, consents, and related clinical documentation.
  • Respond to patient questions, clinical task lists, and follow-up messages as directed.
  • Clean, sterilize, maintain, and inventory clinical equipment and instruments.
  • Maintain cosmetic product, medication, and supply inventory, remove expired items, and restock treatment areas.
  • Support infection control standards and maintain organized, fully stocked clinical spaces.
  • Accurately document patient information and scribe provider notes in the EMR.
  • Assist with administration of local anesthetic as directed.
  • Support timely communication regarding phone messages, faxes, and interdepartmental needs.
  • Maintain HIPAA compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

 

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Previous experience in a medical or clinical setting preferred; Dermatology experience is a plus.
  • Medical Assistant certification or completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred, unless otherwise required by state law.
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) preferred.
  • Comfortable supporting both general medical and procedural patient care, including rooming patients, obtaining medical histories and vital signs, and assisting providers with clinical procedures.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to providing an exceptional patient experience.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Collaborative, dependable, and comfortable working as part of a physician-led clinical team.
  • Ability and willingness to learn new clinical workflows, technology, and dermatology-specific procedures.
  • Flexibility to travel to nearby practice locations when needed based on business and patient-care needs.

Licensure/Certifications/Education

Education & Experience:

  • 1-2 years of recent Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, or other clinical patient care experience preferred.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Program, Certified Nursing Assistant program or completion of a bachelor’s degree program in the pre-med or pre-physician assistant track preferred.
  • CPR certified preferred.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Standing and walking for extended periods of time 
  • Moderate amount of talking, bending, twisting, reaching, and balancing. 
  • Use of hands and fingers. 
  • Handling of materials such as paper, supplies, etc. 
  • Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds. 
  • Risk of exposure to infectious organisms and the possibility of injury due to chemicals and sharp objects.
