Medical Assistant (Mohs Surgery) - Duluth, GA

We're hiring a Medical Assistant (Mohs Surgery) to join our North Atlanta Dermatology team in Duluth, GA. The Mohs Medical Assistant will work closely with our Mohs surgeon to support patient care before, during, and after surgical procedures, including preparing procedure rooms and surgical trays, assisting during procedures, and supporting post-operative care.

Previous hands-on experience working as a Medical Assistant in Mohs surgery is required to be considered for this position.

Schedule: Monday - Thursday | 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Responsibilities:

• Room patients, obtain vital signs, review medical history, and document intake information in the EMR.
• Complete pre-operative intake, explain surgical procedures within scope, and respond to patient questions as directed.
• Prepare procedure rooms, surgical trays, instruments, and supplies for dermatologic procedures.
• Drape and disinfect surgical sites, assist with administration of local anesthetic, and support hemostasis as directed.
• Assist physicians during procedures, including passing instruments, blotting, and cutting sutures.
• Apply dressings, prepare discharge paperwork, and review wound care instructions with patients.
• Clean, sterilize, and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization in an autoclave.
• Collect, prepare, and route pathology and laboratory specimens according to insurance requirements and maintain accurate pathology logs.
• Remove sutures and support post-operative follow-up care as directed.
• Notify patients of pathology and laboratory results as instructed.
• Respond to patient questions in the office and by phone as directed.
• Schedule or reschedule appointments with providers and specialists and send appropriate records as needed.
• Maintain medication samples, remove expired supplies, and maintain appropriate records.
• Support infection control standards and maintain clean, organized, fully stocked exam and procedure rooms.
• Accurately document medical instructions and patient information in the EMR.
• Maintain HIPAA compliance.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Previous hands-on Medical Assistant experience in Dermatology or Mohs surgery required.
• Candidates must have experience supporting dermatology procedures, including surgical room and tray preparation, patient pre-operative intake, assisting the surgeon during procedures, and post-operative patient care.
• Medical Assistant certification or completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred, unless otherwise required by state law.
• Experience with electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) preferred.
• Comfortable supporting procedural patient care, including rooming patients, obtaining medical histories and vital signs, and assisting with Mohs surgical procedures.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a commitment to providing an exceptional patient experience.
• Excellent attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced surgical environment.
• Collaborative, dependable, and comfortable working closely with a Mohs surgeon and clinical team.

Education & Experience:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Previous Medical Assistant experience supporting Mohs surgery is required.
• Previous experience in a dermatology, Mohs, or surgical setting required.
• Completion of a Medical Assistant Program, Certified Nursing Assistant program, or bachelor’s degree program in a pre-medical or pre-physician assistant track preferred.
• CPR certification preferred.

Physical Requirements: 

• Standing and walking for extended periods of time 
• Moderate amount of talking, bending, twisting, reaching, and balancing. 
• Use of hands and fingers. 
• Handling of materials such as paper, supplies, etc. 
• Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds. 
• Risk of exposure to infectious organisms and the possibility of injury due to chemicals and sharp objects.
