Grossing Technician - Part Time

Anne Arundel Dermatology is seeking an experienced part-time Grossing Technician to join the pathology laboratory within our Academic Alliance in Dermatology practice.

This is a part-time position working approximately 3 hours per day. The ideal candidate will have previous hands-on grossing experience and be comfortable supporting specimen preparation and documentation in a fast-paced pathology laboratory.

Schedule: Approximately 3 hours per day. Hours are flexible, with a preferred start time around 10:00 AM or during normal daytime laboratory hours. Late-afternoon availability may also be considered.

Responsibilities

• Perform gross examination and preparation of tissue specimens for histologic processing.

• Accurately measure, describe, section, label, and prepare specimens according to established laboratory procedures.

• Document gross descriptions and specimen information accurately and completely.

• Ensure proper specimen identification, handling, and tracking throughout the grossing process.

• Maintain accurate specimen logs and laboratory documentation.

• Collaborate with pathologists, histotechnicians, and other laboratory team members to support efficient daily workflow.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and properly stocked grossing area.

• Follow laboratory safety, quality, and compliance standards.

Qualifications

• Previous hands-on specimen grossing experience required.

• Experience working in a pathology, histology, dermatopathology, or similar laboratory environment strongly preferred.

• Strong knowledge of proper specimen handling, identification, and documentation.

• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

• Ability to work independently and efficiently while maintaining accuracy.

• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with pathologists and laboratory staff.

• Science-related education or laboratory training preferred.

Education and Experience: 

• High school diploma or equivalent. 
• Previous experience in a healthcare or administrative role preferred. 
• Bachelor of Science degree required (Biology, Chemistry, or related science field preferred)
• Minimum of 24 completed credit hours in science courses (biology, chemistry, anatomy, etc.)

Physical Requirements: 

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. 
• Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
